Guest curator Gail M. Brown invited a group of nationally recognized ceramic artists to create platters and plates. A Blue Plate Special celebrates the relationship we share with our material culture by beginning with familiar domestic forms. The exhibition offers a range of individual ideas from enticing functional objects to personal narratives and sculptural forms. Each artist confirms that the platter and the plate can be an enticing canvas for ideas and visual stories.  Some evoke reminiscences of familiar kitchens and meals that stir our collective memory of family dinners and small town Americana. Others introduce new, unexpected forms and ideas. All reflect the breadth of human imagination enhanced by clay- the medium of unlimited possibilities.

Gail M. Brown is an Independent Curator. Her focus is to enhance visibility and education about contemporary craft in the larger visual arts community. She is a passionate observer of the unique potential of art in craft media: for the communication of issue oriented and aesthetic ideas coupled with extensive examination of the chosen material process, within the decorative arts continuum
